About the Course

The individual units of Competency are nationally accredited. However this Course has been designed to meet the Qld Licensing requirements. Therefore the certificate will be a Statement of Attainment comprising the individual units. Yes - We are a Registered Training Organisation, #41173.
Anyone 18 yrs of age or older if they satisfy the following criteria:
  • Are a resident of Qld
  • Are a fit and proper person
  • Have not, within the past 5 years, been convicted of a disqualifying offence including misuse of drugs, misuse of weapons, the use or threatened use of violence, or been the subject of a domestic violence protection order
  • Have a genuine reason for a licence
  • Can demonstrate appropriate training in the safe use of firearms, and
  • Have access to secure storage.

The course is at certificate 3 level. Your Trainer will present the material in a clear manner and assist you with individual difficulties.
Yes, there will be some homework to do which allows extra time to do the practical activities during class. This is the best way to get through the course quickly and maximise your skill level understanding.

Yes. You have to book a spot, make the payment, return the completed enrolment form which will be sent to you. Additionally there will be some homework pre-reading.

If you have already been awarded a unit for this course we can give you a credit transfer for that unit provided the Unit Code is an exact match. Marking and Assessing Your Work

You will be contacted by the Trainer via email with any concerns and given 2 additional chances and additional tuition from the trainer. The trainer needs to assess you as competent. You are not required to get 100% to pass the course and your trainer is there to assist you and help with any difficulties you may experience throughout the course.
You will be required to submit a hard copy to your Trainer.

The Training Day

Typically the course runs between 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. Your trainer has discretion on the number of breaks. Usually, there will always be a morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea break in addition to smaller coffee breaks as the group requires. Wear comfortable clothes on the first day. The Trainer will advise what type of clothing is suitable for the Shooting Range at the appropriate time.
Talon Education & your Trainer will attempt to make alternative arrangements, such as re-booking a later time or providing additional tuition. The course will proceed as usual for the other students.
You will need to discuss this with the Trainer. Phones are not permitted on the Shooting Range or during practical task activities. However, generally it won’t be a problem in the classroom, as long as the phone is on vibrate and the other students are not interrupted. NO PHONES WILL BE PERMITTED ON THE RANGE DURING THE LIVE FIRE ASSESSMENT

Location, Parking and Food

Day 1 attendance is in our training room at Unit 5/36 Corner of Hutchinson Street and Central Drive, Burleigh Heads, Qld 4220. The live fire component of this course is conducted at approved ranges.
There is a cafe / shop on site for light meals and snacks (at both locations), or you can bring your own.
