10618NAT Course in Firearms Safety Gold Coast
v1 1 May 2017
The new Firearms Safety course 10618NAT replaces the now superseded 30989QLD Course in firearms safety. 10618NAT Course in firearms safety, is now the regulatory requirement by the Queensland Police Weapons Licensing Branch. A safety course must be completed to obtain a firearms licence to possess and/or use firearms in Queensland. A person undertaking the 10618NAT Course in firearms safety, will need to demonstrate an adequate knowledge of The National Firearms Safety Code, the different categories of firearms as well as the general firearms safety practices for the safe use, storage and maintenance of the categories of weapon(s) that they are applying for.
The courses can cover Categories A&B (Recreational and target), C (Security, Primary Producer, Commercial Fisherman), H (Target sport or Security) and D (Primary Producer or Vertebral Pest Destruction). Completion of a safety course is mandatory before applying for your firearms licence.
Purpose of the Course
The Course in Firearms Safety will provide students with the practical training to safely handle firearms. Students will gain knowledge of and be trained in the safe handling, storage and operation of relevant categories of firearms. Students will also take part in a live firing assessment at an approved firearms range.
Recently, the public’s interest in sports and recreational shooting has increased. Particularly among women of all ages. There has been an increase of 30% in woman completing safety courses and applying for their firearms licenses. This increase is because people have discovered that shooting involves the development of self-discipline and is challenging and enjoyable. Because of this, more and more people are joining the sport. In fact, the number of new gun licences issued across Queensland increased 19%, from 12,818 to 15,260.
TALON Education and Training also offers ladies classes, for women who would like to take up the shooting sports and learn in an environment with other like-minded women.
This course is open to all persons eligible to obtain a firearms licence under the Weapons Act 1990
This course is also included in the Security Firearms Training course.
